From a feature posted by NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. Not much commentary is required except to note that only six years after German reunification Germany participated as part of NATO in the bloc’s war in Bosnia (with 14 Tornado warplanes), then in NATO’s war against Yugoslavia in 1999 (also with Tornadoes, Germany’s first offensive air mission since World War II) and its war in Afghanistan starting two years after that.
German Unity Day is the National Day in Germany, celebrated on October 3. It commemorates German reunification in 1990 when the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) were unified, so that for the first time since 1945 there existed a single German state. German Unity Day has been the German National Holiday since 1990, when the reunification was formally completed.
