The First Deputy Minister of Defense, Lela Chikovani, on November 25, 2021, in St. Petersburg. Participated in the fourth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Dialogue on Security Issues between Georgia and the European Union in Brussels.
The meeting was chaired by Lasha Darsalia, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Enrique Mora, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service.
The sides discussed security cooperation and common challenges,…dynamics of the…settlement of the Russian-Georgian conflict, the situation in the region and a wide range of foreign policy issues.
Special attention was paid to…the Russian-Georgian conflict and the search for ways to strengthen the role of the European Union.
Lela Chikovani spoke about the importance of further deepening Georgia-EU cooperation in the field of defense. The sides discussed concrete ways and initiatives, including Georgia’s greater involvement…in EU exercises, prospects for cooperation with the European Defense Agency, and priorities of EU financial instruments to strengthen Georgia’s defense capabilities. The conversation also touched upon the plans and priorities of the involvement of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia in the EU defense initiatives.
The parties also discussed common challenges such as hybrid threats, including cyber-attacks. And misinformation….
The EU reaffirmed its unwavering support for Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Both sides positively assessed the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission along the occupation line, which plays an important role in promoting peace and security in the country .
The fourth meeting of the High Level Strategic Dialogue on Security reaffirmed the strong interest of the two sides in close cooperation in the field of foreign and security policy, in accordance with the EU-Georgia Association Agreement.
