Ruling party head: Georgia’s involvement in war would mean “destruction” of country

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said Georgia getting involved in a war against Russia amid the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine would mean a “destruction” of the country.

Kobakhidze pointed to the largest opposition party in the country as one that “clearly wanted” to see a conflict breaking out in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The National Movement clearly wants this. They neither can, nor want to, hide this. [And] similar statements were made directly by Ukrainian authorities,” the GD official said in reference to Oleksiy Danilov, the Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council saying the Georgian Government attempting to retake its Russian-occupied regions by force would help Ukraine in its defence against the Russian invasion.

On March 11, Kobakhidze said Georgia was the” only country in the world” where the opposition was “using the war” unleashed by Russia in Ukraine for a “campaign to damage” its own country.
