Major General Giorgi Matiashvili met with the Chief of Staff of the US Ground Forces

The Commander of the Defense Forces of Georgia, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili was on a visit to Germany, where he attended the European Ground Forces Conference. Within the framework of the visit, General Matiashvili met with the Chief of Staff of the US Ground Forces, General James McConville. The newly appointed commander of US ground forces in Europe and Africa, General Daryl Williams, was also present at the meeting. During the bilateral meeting, the conversation touched upon the security environment created in the region, the impact of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine on the security of the region, and threats from the Russian Federation. The parties talked about the ongoing and planned events within the 10-year program of the development of the Georgian Defense Forces and the intensification of US support in this process .

The commanders of the ground forces and defense forces of about thirty European countries took part in the event. Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova were invited to the conference. The participants discussed the hostilities carried out by the Russian Federation in Ukraine and its impact on global security. The conversation touched on the issues of strengthening combat readiness and defense capabilities through the improvement of interoperability and coordination mechanisms.
