Four-day visit of five congressmen to Georgia – Washington messages and open support of US lawmakers

Georgia is a Strategic Partner for the United States – This Message from Washington

A 5-member delegation of the United States Congress has arrived in Georgia. The first day was devoted to meeting with the Prime Minister and the occupation [Abkhazia and South Ossetia], although the purpose of the four-day visit is to discuss a number of other important issues.

Both sides expressed their aspiration to expand and deepen strategic partnerships at both the executive and legislative levels between the US and Georgia at the meeting. 

We (the US) continue to be concerned about the occupation from Russia and want to work with Georgia to make sure this region is safe and secure,” [Alex] Mooney said.

US Congressmen visit Georgian village at the occupation line

Bryan George Steil, Carol Devine Miller, Alex Mooney, Ronald Jean Estes and Kelly Michael Armstrong – have visited the Georgian village of Odzisi, near the administrative boundary separating the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region from the rest of Georgia. 

“It is important to come and see first hand the Russian occupation of Georgia and it is really an important step in building this relationship between the US and the country of Georgia…It is one thing to read about it, it is another thing to come here and see what the occupation zone looks like,” US Congressman Bryan Steil said.”

“It is very important for the world to see the occupation that is happening here and to let Russian know that we are paying attention and we are greatly concerned about the aggression here,” Mooney stated.”

“You can read about it but until you are here and see it in person understanding the size and how important it is to the country of Georgia about the encroachment from Russia and being able to protect Georgia’s sovereignty,” stated Kelly Armstrong.

Go all by land, by air – Mikheil Saakashvili announces arrival in Georgia

The third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, has released a video address in which he says he intends to visit Georgia and hopes that the Georgian people will not leave him in prison.

He also noted that if the elections are rigged, the Georgian people should not tolerate it and “should give them back”.
