UN must use its mandate to avoid worst-case scenario for Kyiv – Ukraine’s delegation
[This is the method used by the U.S. and its allies against Russia over Afghanistan in 1980: Ending one 40-year war, starting another? Joe Biden’s Jimmy Carter moment. Then Washington, stymied by a Soviet veto in the Security Council, moved the issue to the General Assembly and with the assistance of its allies China and Saudi Arabia rallied the so-called Third World and the Muslim world to pass Resolution 462 condemning the deployment of Soviet troops to Afghanistan in December of 1979.]
The UN General Assembly must make full use of its mandate to maintain peace and security in order to avoid a worst-case scenario amid the buildup of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine.
That’s according to a statement of the Ukrainian delegation, voiced at an informal meeting of the General Assembly on the occasion of the report of the UNGA head on the priorities of the 76th session, said Deputy Ambassador of Ukraine to the UN, Yuriy Vitrenko….

Vitrenko called on UN General Assembly President Abdullah Shahid to ensure that the GA “makes full use of its mandate on questions relating to the maintenance of international peace and security to avoid the worst-case scenario.”
The propaganda war in full swing. US-NATO-Ukraine (USNUK) know that the rest of the world is perfectly aware of what is happening, they know that Russia has he;d back for 10 years of aggression against it, they know that Russia has no interest in taking Ukraine and doesn’t want it even as a gift.
This and most of the other “Statements” are merely there for historical purposes, to show how the USNUK did their best to avoid the conflict. It is noise and the world knows it.
US no longer has the political capital to control the UNGA and with Russia-China in the UNSEC it has no control there either. So everyone knows the UN is just noise and for any area where Us and China and Russia have no interest, eg Tonga, The Congo or Patagonia.

Every Autumn the General Assembly condemns Russia over Crimea. Not, as you indicate, in the lopsided manner that it did the Soviet Union over Afghanistan in 1980, as about half the members abstain, but in a way that further isolates Russia. Even Belarus and China don’t recognize Crimea as part of Russia. Russia’s strategic allies China, Azerbaijan and Turkey are all striking major deals with Kiev, including arms deals. A Security Council vote on Russia and Ukraine – which is what I posted the piece about – could well result in the U.S., Britain and France condemning Russia and China abstaining (with a thought for Xinjiang), leaving Russia to veto a motion aimed at itself – bad form. Speaking personally, life has taught me at every turn not to underestimate adversaries….Belated appreciation for the excerpts from the Mysterious Stranger. Disturbingly apt at the moment.
