Vucic: I predict prolonged conflict in Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday said he was not optimistic about a resolution of the Ukraine crisis and a peaceful solution being reached because neither side wanted compromise.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday said he was not optimistic about a resolution of the Ukraine crisis and a peaceful solution being reached because neither side wanted compromise.

“Everyone is waiting for a defeat of the other side. No one wants peace and compromise, so I predict a prolonged conflict,” Vucic said on Pink TV.

He said Serbia must avoid traps, and noted that, since the outset of the crisis, regional and European media had been dealing with Serbia more and making horrible allegations and reporting about its vote in the UN.

They know that Serbia is a sovereign state and that it is not a “Little Russia”, as well as that, sometimes, neither the Kremlin nor the West is satisfied, but their interest is to break Serbia and to see a Western victory and domination, Vucic said.

“Biden has said there will be one dominant power and that is why the Americans are going into further confrontation with China. Biden set that as the goal and said America would be the dominant power, so everyone in the region is counting on that and wants to be the first in the region to receive the grace of the leader of the new world order and to see Serbia punished,” Vucic noted.

“We must preserve our independence,” Vucic said.

He also said Russia had helped Serbia greatly in the UN Security Council in 2015 and had not bombed the country in 1999, as well as that it had been protecting the integrity of Serbia, even more than China had.

“Being as small as we are compared to the big powers, Germany, the US, the EU….can we pursue a policy of our own? We have endured so far,” Vucic said.
