Issues of Georgia-EU cooperation were discussed within the framework of the European Peace Instrument

A high-level EU delegation paid a visit to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The Head of the Directorate of Defense and Security Pavel Herczynski and the Chairman of the EU Military Staff, Vice-Admiral Erve Blezhan were hosted by the Minister of Defense of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze. The current issues of cooperation with the EU and future priorities were discussed at the meetings with the defense leaders.

The purpose of the annual interagency consultation was to discuss Common Defense and Security Policy (CSDP) issues with the EU.

The members of the EU delegation held meetings with the First Deputy Minister Lela Chikovani, the Commander of the Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili and his Deputy, Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze.

During the visit, the guests visited the training facilities of the Ministry of Defense, as well as meetings with the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, as well as with the heads of the Foreign Affairs and Defense and Security Committees of the Parliament of Georgia.

Another rotation of the Georgian contingent was carried out in Central Africa

The Georgian National Guard’s platoon returned home from the Central African Republic. The servicemen were met at the Tbilisi International Airport by the Deputy Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces, Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze and the Chief of the National Guard, Brigadier General Roman Jokhadze…The Georgian peacekeepers were interviewed by the Chairman of the EU Military Staff, Vice-Admiral Herve Blazane , the Ambassador of the Republic of France, Diego Colas, and the Defense Attaché, Lt. Col. Frédéric Campos , and thanked them for the dignified performance of the mission.

The National Guard team, led by Captain Alexander Bagashvili, spent six months on a military training mission (EUTM RCA) at the Moana Camp in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic….The main task of the Georgian peacekeepers was to secure the base, motorized patrol, convoy and departure. The 9th rotation team of the National Guard has already taken over the authority of the current EU -led military training mission.

Georgian military contingent has been participating in the New Military Training Mission (EUTM RCA) in the Central African Republic since January 31, 2017. The Georgian Defense Forces contingent joined the EU-led international mission in the Central African Republic – EUFOR RCA – for the first time in June 2014 with a company-level unit. The next EU-led mission to the Central African Republic began on 16 March 2015. Joined the Georgian Rapid Reaction Mission ( EUMAM RCA) on April 12.
