Abrahamyan: Azerbaijan has occupied some 1,200 hectares of land in Artsakh region

Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has found itself in a complicated political and diplomatic situation, Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition With Honor faction told a news conference on Thursday, referring to the latest Azerbaijani aggression.

The lawmaker states that the Azerbaijani troops have occupied quite a large territory of the Askeran region of the Artsakh Republic after breaching the ceasefire on March 23.

“According to rough estimates, it’s about 1,100-1,200 hectares of land, but the issue should not be considered only in a territorial context, because through the invasion Azerbaijan seeks to enhance its positional advantage as well as to exercise control over the livelihood of the parts of Artsakh which are currently under our control,” Abrahamyan said.

He claims that the Armenian government has not taken any appropriate measures in the current situation.

“Political statements or assessments of the situation have no deterrent effect. We have to state that Armenia has not taken appropriate actions within its capacities and has not ensured the security of Artsakh-Armenians,” Abrahamyan stressed.

Karabakh slams Britain’s overt support for Azerbaijan’s aggression

Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) State Minister Artak Beglaryan has slammed Great Britain for its overt support for Azerbaijan amid the latter’s incursion into Artsakh.

Britain’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces James Heappey visited Baku on Wednesday, March 31 to discuss “unresolved issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, among other things.

“What does the UK have to do with Azerbaijan’s latest aggression against Artsakh and Russia’s security guarantees?” Beglaryan said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We saw Britain’s overt support for Azerbaijan in 2020 during the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression. Even now, during the occupation of Parukh and Karaglukh, Great Britain does not hide its strategic support, and we can only guess how much and what kind of real support is on the other side of the veil.”

According to Beglaryan, such support seeks to strengthen the positions of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in the region, “in order to strike at the vital interests of Russia, as a result of which the life and security of the indigenous people of Artsakh are violated.”

“And human rights and democracy, ”praised” by the West, are by no means important in such dirty geopolitical games,” Beglaryan added.

Azerbaijan has broken into Nagorno-Karabakh, and the incursion has left three Armenian soldiers dead and at least 14 others injured. On March 24, Azerbaijan stormed into the zone of the responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers stationed in the area and is refusing to completely withdraw its forces from strategic heights.

Artsakh State Minister: Britain strengthens positions of Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in region

Britain strengthens the positions of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in the region, Artsakh State Minister Artak Beglaryan wrote on his Facebook.

“What does Britain have to do with Azerbaijan’s recent aggression against the security guarantees of Artsakh and Russia?

In these days when Azerbaijan is again occupying settlements and strategic heights of Artsakh, the British Minister of the Armed Forces is in Baku, and the Karabakh conflict is discussed with the Azerbaijani ambassador to London.

We saw open British support for Azerbaijan in 2020 during the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression. Even now, during the occupation of Parukh and Karaglukh, Britain is not hiding its strategic support, and we can only guess at the size and nature of the actual support.

This is done both in order to strengthen the position of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem in the region, and in order to now strike a blow to Russia’s vital interests, as a result of which the lives and security of the indigenous people of Artsakh are trampled.

Human rights and democracy, praised by the West, are absolutely impossible in such dirty geopolitical games,” he wrote.

Pashinyan: Azerbaijan trying to legitimize large-scale attack on Artsakh, Armenia

Azerbaijan is trying to build legitimacy for a large-scale attack on Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) and Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

“I am sure you are familiar with the statement of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia on March 28, 2022. The statement, issued following the discussions in expanded format, emphasizes the aspiration of Azerbaijan to launch new provocations and attacks in the direction of Nagorno-Karabakh. We underlined that there is quite a high probability of such developments on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border as well,” he said.

Pashinyan stated that the statement raised additional questions and provided a number of clarifications to make the situation in the region clearer for both the Armenian and the international community.

“Like before, during and after the 44-day war in 2020, Azerbaijan pursues a policy of formatulating the wording for justifying the military attack on Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. They first bring forward theses, proposals or comments on the diplomatic and public platform, then accuse Armenia of not responding to those theses, proposals or comments or reacting in an unconstructive way or rejecting them, then attributes some promises to Armenia, fabricates some types of arrangements,” he said.

“Then, in the context of this discourse, they attribute to Armenia none-constructiveness, denial, the practice of not fulfilling promises, not adhering to the agreements, and build aggressive rhetoric based on this accusation, followed by aggressive actions, which are justified by the discourse and content already described above.

“This practice, which has been constantly repeating, continues today and it is obvious that Azerbaijan is trying to legitimize a large-scale attack on Nagorno-Karabakh and the Republic of Armenia, and my objective today is to prove that their discourse is groundless and illegitimate.” Pashinyan noted.

Armenia expects Russian peacekeeping to have Azeris out of Karabakh

Armenia expects that the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh will take concrete steps to ensure the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from areas they broke into on March 24, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday

“We note with regret that despite the clear statements of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the United States, France and the United Nations, the invasion of Azerbaijani armed forces into the area of responsibility of the peacekeeping force of the Russian Federation in Nagorno-Karabakh continues,” Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister also said that the actions of the peacekeepers during or after the invasion, “or the possible inaction”, should be properly investigated. He reminded that that before the latest events, the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire from mortars on the village of Khramort for 10 days.

In a number of villages in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijanis have been firing on residential houses and people carrying out agricultural work, equipment, tractors, and naturaly, the drivers. Such cases were registered in the direction of Nor Shen, Amaras, Taghavart villages, while on October 9, 2021, the driver of a tractor carrying out agricultural work was killed while driving in Martakert by an Azerbaijani sniper in the presence of peacekeepers.
