Borrell: We will continue to arm, support Ukraine to end war

High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell has said that in order to end the war waged by Russia against Ukraine, it is necessary to continue to arm Ukraine and put pressure on the Kremlin.

“This war must be ended as soon as possible. But how will it be finished? The sooner the better, but not by any means….Therefore, we must continue to arm Ukraine and provide even more support. We want to give more weapons. [T]his is what we are doing and we must do even more and faster,” Borrell said, speaking at the European Parliament on Wednesday.

He recalled that the EU has already provided Ukraine with arms and weapons in the amount of EUR 1 billion.

“It may look like a lot, but the fact that we pay Putin every day for energy that he supplies us, we have paid him EUR 35 billion since the beginning of the war. Comparing this to the EUR 1 billion we have provided Ukraine, for weapons. That is a huge difference and should highlight the importance and need to reduce our dependency. Today, we have put an end to coal, but this is only a small part of the bill (which the EU pays for energy to the Kremlin),” Borrell said.

In this regard, he reiterated the need for the EU to become independent and energy autonomous. [Meaning independent from Russia, surely not from Azerbaijan and the U.S.]

Russian-Ukrainian war may last for many years, says Stoltenberg

First of all, this war must end now, and President Putin ends it by withdrawing its troops and forces…,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, APA reports.

But at the same time, we have to be realistic and realize that this may last for a long time, for many months, or even years.
