The Minister of Defense of Georgia met with his Swedish counterpart

Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultkvist is paying an official visit to Georgia. The Swedish delegation was welcomed at the Ministry of Defense with an official ceremony, after which the Swedish counterpart was hosted by the Minister of Defense of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze.

At the meeting, the ministers discussed the security environment in the region and the existing challenges. The talks focused on Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine…a threat to Euro-Atlantic security.

The issues of successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and future plans for relations were discussed at the meeting. Sweden’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as for Euro-Atlantic integration, was emphasized. Juansher Burchuladze thanked Peter Hultkvist for his support of Georgia’s application for EU membership and for the exemplary partnership.

The Minister briefed his Swedish counterpart on the reforms implemented to strengthen Georgia’s defense capabilities. The talks focused on the progress made by Georgia on its path to NATO and EU membership. A special place was given to the need to develop and deepen cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

After the meeting, the Swedish Defense Minister paid tribute to the heroes who died for the territorial integrity of Georgia at the Heroes ‘Square and laid a wreath at the Heroes’ Memorial.
