NATO Warships Enter Baltic Sea

Ships of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) have entered the Baltic Sea to take part in exercises with neighboring Allies.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda online media with reference to the Estonian portal ERR.

It is reported that this group consists of five ships and is led by the frigate of the Royal Navy of the Netherlands “De Zeven Provincien.”

Part of the SNMG1 ships entered the Baltic Sea on Thursday. The remaining ships will arrive at the Tallinn port terminal on Friday.

The primary task is to demonstrate the presence of allies in the Baltic Sea Region and to conduct joint exercises with the Estonian Navy.

Three frigates already standing in the port came from the international northern waters of Norway. There they were at an exercise called Cold Response.

NATO ships visit Estonia

Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1), consisting of four navy ships, arrived in Tallinn, Estonia, for a scheduled port visit April 14.

SNMG1 is led by Commodore A. van de Sande of the Royal Netherlands Navy.

Currently, SNMG1 comprises flagship HNLMS De Zeven Provinciën (F802) (The Netherlands), HDMS Peter Willemoes (F362) (Denmark), FGS Erfurt (F262) (Germany) and HMS Northumberland (F238) (United Kingdom). During the Port Visit HMCS Halifax (FFH 330) (Canada) will join. SNMG1 is one of the four Standing NATO Maritime Groups, and part of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.

…Port visits demonstrate the strong relationship between NATO nations while also providing an opportunity to replenish supplies.

Following the port visit, SNMG1 will interact with the Estonian Navy during exercises at sea.
