NATO military drills start in Latvia

Latvian Armed Forces announced on Monday the start of joint military spring training with six NATO allies against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The exercises will last until May 27 and involve units from the United States, the United Kingdom, Czechia, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania.

The Latvian military stated the goal of the drills is “to improve the integration of national and allied forces for defense tasks, including practical training of Latvian and NATO command elements, providing support to the host country, conducting joint tactical field exercises with combat shooting and promoting cross-border cooperation.”

International exercises involving 3,000 servicemen have started in Latvia

International Namejs 2022 exercises have started in Latvia with the participation of 3,000 servicemen from the armed forces of several North Atlantic Alliance countries.

According to the Latvian Army Command, the military exercises are aimed at checking the interaction of national and allied forces during the defense.

Military units from the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Poland, the United States, the Czech Republic and Estonia have arrived in Latvia to participate in the Namejs 2022 exercises. The maneuvers will also involve a NATO battalion based in Latvia, which includes units from Albania, Italy, Iceland, Spain, Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Montenegro and the Czech Republic.

The Allied Command sent representatives of motorized infantry and landing units, artillery, aviation, as well as operational planning and logistics units to the exercises. The Namejs 2022 exercises, which will end on May 27, will consist of several stages.
