Polish state-owned bank secures funds for arms purchases in US

Poland’s state-owned Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) has managed to secure USD 4 billion for the purchases of armaments in the US, the prime minister has said.

“We should appreciate the success achieved by the BGK CEO, Beata Daszynska-Muzyczka, who successfully carried out a complex and difficult operation designed to obtain USD 4 billion for arms purchases on the US market,” Mateusz Morawiecki told wPolityce.pl, adding that this had been done during the time of significant market unrest.

Asked if the financial crisis and planned budget savings could make Poland cancel its armaments plans, Morawiecki said that a strong army was the goal which “will not be given up under any circumstances.”

“The sovereignty and security of the Polish people are priceless,” he added.
