Visit of the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Defense Forces

The Chief of Staff of the Romanian Defense Forces is on an official visit to Georgia. General Daniel Petrescu was hosted by the Minister of Defense of Georgia, Juansher Burchuladze….[S]pecial attention was paid to the importance of the stability and development of the Black Sea region, the growing dynamics and future prospects of bilateral defense cooperation between Georgia and Romania in the region. The important role of the NATO-Georgia Essential Package (SNGP) and Romania’s contribution to the successful implementation of the package’s initiatives were emphasized.

After the official welcoming ceremony, the Commander of the Defense Forces of Georgia, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili met his Romanian counterpart. At the bilateral meeting, the generals discussed the current issues of military cooperation between the two countries and future plans. The conversation also touched upon issues of cooperation in the direction of military education and military training.

The Georgian side thanked General Daniel Petrescu for the support of Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspirations on the part of Romania.

Within the framework of the visit, the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Defense Forces, General Daniel Petrescu, met with the NATO core group and the representatives of the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC), where they discussed the implementation of the NATO-Georgia Essential Package (SNGP) initiatives. Today, the Romanian general also visited the base of special operations forces in Vashlijvari.

The Chief of the General Staff of Romania, General Daniel Petrescu, honored the memory of the Georgian heroes who died for the territorial integrity of Georgia at Heroes’ Square with a minute’s silence and decorated the memorial with a wreath.
